Vice President of Tanzanian basketball club Dar City, Ladislaus Ikungura, has said the team has not lost hope despite being eliminated from the ongoing Basketball Africa League (BAL) tournament.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam after returning from Rwanda, where the competition is taking place, Ikungura thanked the Tanzanian government and sports stakeholders for their support throughout the campaign.
“We sincerely thank the Government of Tanzania under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the National Sports Council (BMT), Sports Minister Paul Makonda, and all sports stakeholders for supporting us,” he said.
Ikungura also praised the players and technical bench for their hard work during the tournament journey, which started in Tanzania before the team traveled to Kenya and South Africa for qualification games.
“We had one big dream of becoming champions, but unfortunately we lost against Petro de Luanda. Even though we did not achieve our target, we have learned many important lessons from this competition,” he added.
The Dar City official insisted the club is already planning for the future and promised fans that the team will return stronger in upcoming competitions.
“We are not giving up. We have a big plan ahead and we will come back stronger,” Ikungura said.
